Aiming High: Undergraduate Research Projects in Computer Graphics and Animation

چکیده
Among educators, the promotion of undergraduate research is a much debated topic, with issues arising from questions as to how it can be integrated with undergraduate degree programmes and how to structure its delivery. Undergraduate research is also considered important by employers, as can be seen in case of the computer game development and visual effects industries who demand that universities produce graduate software developers with not only vocational but also with rather advanced research skills. In this paper we present a successful undergraduate research course, implemented for one of our undergraduate degree programmes. It includes teaching and learning focussed on the nature of small team research and development as encountered in the creative industries dealing with computer graphics, computer animation and game development. We discuss our curriculum design and issues in conducting undergraduate research that we have identified through several iterations of

متن کاملScientific Foundations of Computer Graphics
It is apparent that computer graphics has become a well-known technology that is used in a broad spectra of application areas. For example, in fields like computer aided design, animation, scientific visualization and medical science the importance of computer graphics is evident. But what are the scientific foundations upon which computer graphics relies? Is computer graphics merely a useful t...

This paper describes some experiences with the use of the MAVERIK system for supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. MAVERIK is a high-level system for creating and managing interactive virtual environments. It is available free under the GNU General Public Licence. MAVERIK is modular and extensible, and its use of Mesa, the free OpenGL-like graphics system, means that ...
متن کاملZahir: a Object-Oriented Framework for Computer Graphics
In this article we present Zahir, a framework for experimentation in Computer Graphics that provides a group of object-oriented base components that take care of common tasks in rendering techniques and algorithms, specially those of Non Photo-realistic Rendering (NPR). These components allow developers to implement rendering techniques and algorithms over static and animated meshes. Currently,...
